So, as you all know, I'm back to leaving in February. Febrauary 15th to be exact...at least that's what the plan is today! I'm gonna keep working til January 16th, and then head to Florida to see Steph and the kids before I go. January 17th is my going away party and ya'll better be there :) I know it's a few months away still, but it'll be here before we know it, which is why I'm already inviting people!
The only thing standing in my way is one measly paper...my Apostille notarized background check. grrrr! I paid the $25 to get a piece of paper that says I have no criminal record. Thanks, I could have told ya that! Anyway, I take a 1/2 day off work and drive from South Windsor to Hartford to the Secretary of State to get that Apostille stamp thing on it. Here I am told it needs to be notarized by someone else before she will stamp it. Great! So I call the wonderful people at the Department of Public Safety who tell me CT does not notarize background checks, only Letters of Good Conduct. Soooo, I drive from Hartford to Middletown and pay $5 dollars to get fingerprinted (even though the state of connecticut probably has about 10 copies of my fingerprints from my teaching jobs!) and I will get my letter mailed to me. I come home and email Park English to give them the l.d. Weeeeellll, apparently Korean immigration does not accept letters of good conduct, only...you guessed it, background checks!
I get this number to call in New York for Apostille help and they tell me to email them my background check. Easily done right?? Nope! Who has my background check but the Department of Public Safety! I call them and they don't want to send it to me because they sent me the letter of good conduct instead. I beg and plead and finally talk Becky into sending it to me! YAY!
A week later...I have yet to receive both my letter of good conduct or my background check! Again, I call the public safety people and the woman makes it sound like I'm doubting she even sent me the damn paper! For fuck's sake lady, this is the last g.d. paper I need for my working visa!!!! Hurry up already!!! GGGGGGggggrrrrrrrr...
Guess what came in the mail today???? My letter of good conduct. Now...the irony. What does this letter of good conduct say???
"A search of the files of the Connecticut State Police Bureau of Identification finds NO CRIMINAL RECORD for the following..."
This is the exact same thing the background check says!!!! I'm soooooo confused right now! LOL. I've just emailed Park English to tell them all this...I hope it will work!!!!
Keep your fingers crossed!
Love you all!
